Ixora
Ixora (Spanish)
Ixora sp.
Mexican Geranium, West Indian Jasmine. This prevalent tropical evergreen grows up to 12 feet as a shrub or small tree often shaped into a dense hedge. Of the over 400 species there are many colors including yellow, red, pink, white, lavender and orange. The red varieties are used in Hindu worship and Indian folk medicine. The leaves possess antiseptic properties used for skin sores and bloodshot eyes.
The roots can be used to treat diarrhea and fever.
